KOTA KINABALU: Police arrested four men, including two illegal immigrants, who were involved in an armed robbery early this month.

Kota Kinabalu police chief ACP Habibi Majinji said the suspects, aged between 23 and 30, were arrested on Sept 5, two days after they robbed a woman of her belongings near Imago shopping complex around 7.30pm on Sept 3.

“In the incident, the 50-year-old victim was walking along the road when she was approached by two unidentified men.

“One of the suspects threatened the victim with a weapon and demanded for her handbag.

“Fearing for her safety, the woman handed over her handbag which contained some cash, handphone and personal documents,” said Habibi.

Following the incident, police raided a house in Sembulan and detained four men on Sept 9.

“Police seized several items used by the suspects in their illegal activities including a machete, a nunchaku, a knuckle duster, as well as the victim’s handbag and personal items,” said Habibi.

He said police investigation revealed the suspects, known as “Duk Sembulan” were believed to be involved in 10 robbery and house-breaking cases with losses amounting to RM20,000.

The suspects have since been remanded for investigation under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code for robbery and armed robbery.

Police are currently hunting for the fifth suspect, only known as Bimal, aged 20 from Kg Sembulan.

Anyone who knows the whereabouts of the suspect can contact investigating officer Inspector Ong Kok Hui at 013 5628932.
