DAP attempts to mislead voters by contesting under Warisan logo – LDP

-

KOTA KINABALU: Liberal Democratic Party’s (LDP) Kapayan candidate, Datuk Yong Wui Chung, has taken DAP to task for attempting to mislead the voters by contesting under the logo of Parti Warisan Sabah (Warisan) in the state election.

He said embracing one’s ancestral roots was a Chinese traditional mindset that had passed on for thousands of years as a symbol of respect to the ancestors and a measure of a person’s character.

“Funnily enough, DAP is willing to forgo its identity and roots in order to win the state election,” he said.

Yong opined that DAP had agreed to use Warisan’s logo to confuse voters on the distinction between a peninsular-based and Sabah-based party.

“Their intention is to contest under the guise of a local party candidate.”

He reminded DAP candidates that they could not change the fact that they represented a peninsular-based party.

“Attempt to mislead the voters by standing under Warisan ticket is a despicable act to hoodwink the people,” he said.

“What will happen if the voters continue to entrust Sabah’s future in the hands of peninsular party candidates is that Warisan Plus will task DAP and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) with the job of pursuing the rights of the State because both parties have leaders at the national level.”

However, Yong pointed out that Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) track record showed that the coalition had failed to fulfil their promises to recognize the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC), lower the cost of living and fuel after it took over Putrajaya.

“Their pre-election promises in 2018 had turned out to be lies.”

If the candidates fielded by peninsular-based parties were worried they may be rejected by Sabahans due to the local party sentiment, he said they should have fulfilled their pledges when PH was still in power.

“Contesting under a different logo does not change the fact that they are representing peninsular-based parties,” he said.
