KOTA KINABALU: The newlyminted Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government has allocated RM50 million in its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic in the state.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor announced this yesterday following his State Cabinet's maiden meeting at the Sabah State Administrative Centre (PPNS).

“From the said amount, a total of RM10 million would be allocated for food baskets, which would be distributed to the affected residents in the four districts which are involved in the Targeted Enhanced Movement Control Order (TEMCO), namely Tawau, Lahad Datu, Semporna and Kunak,” said Hajiji in a statement.

He also said that the management of issues relating to Covid-19 would now be handled by the State Covid-19 Disaster Management Committee.

Hajiji disclosed that the committee would be chaired by the State Secretary while the State Health director would co-chair along with members from the related state and federal agencies.

“With that, the Sabah Covid19 Command Centre would be abolished and its role would be transferred to the new committee,” he added.

The Sabah Covid-19 Command Centre was set up by former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal under the previous Warisan-led government.

Also present at the meeting were the three deputy chief ministers, Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin who is also the state's Works Minister, Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan (Agriculture and Fisheries Minister) and Datuk Joachim Gunsalam (Industrial Development Minister), State Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun who is also in charge of Local Government and Housing Ministry; and Rural Development Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim.
