RHB appoints new group chief risk officer

KUALA LUMPUR: RHB Banking Group (RHB) has announced the appointmen­t of Dr Chong Han Hwee as group chief risk officer effective Sept 28, 2020.

Dr Chong will be replacing Patrick Ho, who will be retiring as the group chief risk officer on Sept 30, 2020.

Dr Chong has more than 17 years of experience in risk management practices.

Prior to joining RHB, he was a partner in EY Malaysia where he led the Financial Services Risk Management function, managing a team of 60 consultant­s.

Dr Chong was responsibl­e in setting up EY’s risk management practice, which has grown over the years to become the largest risk consulting practice in Malaysia.

His exposure to risk management practices in Australia, Asia and the Middle East, has enabled him to acquire the expertise in combining sophistica­ted quantitati­ve skills and analytical instincts to design and implement initiative­s to deliver significan­t business value.

Dr Chong graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics and Finance from Curtin University of Technology, Australia and earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics from Curtin University (formerly known as Curtin University of Technology), Australia.

“Dr Chong is a strong addition to our Group Management team.

“He will oversee the group’s overall risk management functions including the effective management of Group-wide Risk Management across Credit, Technology, Operations, Market and Shariah,” RHB’s group managing director Dato’ Khairussal­eh Ramli said.

“As a specialist in risk management, Dr Chong will also be responsibl­e for enhancing the standards of risk management across all areas in the group.

“I wish Patrick all the best in his journey ahead and in his future endeavour.”
