Assemblyman welcomes food baskets for affected residents
TAWAU: Sri Tanjong assemblyman, Justin Wong, welcomes the RM10 million allocation for distribution of food baskets to affected residents in Tawau, Semporna, Kunak and Lahad Datu, and proposed bipartisan cooperation on distribution of food aid during Targeted Enforced Movement Control Order (TEMCO).
Justin said while it is seen as a rapid response to the current situation, the media statement remains silent on the channel to be used for distributing food aid at the respective districts.
He said previously the Warisanled government distributed food aid to the people, especially B40 group, through sixty Community Development Leader Units (UPPM) at the respective state constituencies.
In Sri Tanjong for instance, he said the allocation of some RM100,000 was disbursed directly to the UPPM office bank account from the State Government.
"The team led by my predecessor had successfully distributed more than 10,000 packs of food to Tawau folks during the first phase of MCO. They also received contribution from kind-hearted persons and from the YB's fund itself," he said here yesterday.
“As we are still transitioning from this change of government, these units are still helmed by the previous regime. I propose a bipartisan cooperation specifically on handling this distribution of food aids.
"Let us put politics aside and work together during this crucial period to ensure the people of Sabah have enough food supply. Let's fight Covid-19 together.”
