Driver killed, passenger hurt as car falls off flyover

KOTA KINABALU: A 51-yearold man was killed when the car he was driving skidded and fell off a flyover at Jalan Kepayan-Putatan, near Kota Kinabalu Internatio­nal Airport (KKIA).

The accident occurred on Tuesday night around 10.05 pm when the driver, identified as Jafri @ Jeffrey Pelasin, and a passenger, Helen Majain, were on their way home to Putatan from Kota Kinabalu.

The car was said to have crashed into and broke the metal barrier on the flyover.

As a result, Jafri was thrown out of the vehicle as the car fell off the flyover and landed upside-down, with the passenger trapped in it.

The passenger sustained internal injuries and was rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, while the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The case is being investigat­ed by police under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
