Kota Belud bridge safe for all vehicles, says Bung
KOTA BELUD: The Kampung Piasau bridge is safe for usage by all vehicles, said Works Minister, Dato Sri Bung Moktar Radin.
He said that he has been informed by the Public Works Department (PWD) engineering division that the bridge was safe to be used.
“There is no need to worry because the bridge is still in good condition and is sturdy. It only needed a minor fix to stop the continued erosion and works to repair the abutment has been done,” he said.
Bung, who is also Deputy Chief Minister I said this to address the worries of the people concerning the use of the bridge due to a minor erosion that occurred at the bank of the Kampung Piasau bridge.
According to Bung, to address the erosion issue, repair works on the bridge and on the erosion at the riverbank were implemented last Tuesday but was delayed due to the weather, flood and strong river current.
He said that the contractor that will conduct the rectification works has deployed several machineries at the site.
He added that works will be started to fix the abutment and to fasten the ‘stone pitching’ at the riverbank that has been eroded.
In another development, Bung said that the Melangkap bridge destroyed in the recent flooding has been rebuilt and can be used by the people.
He said that rectification works were started two weeks ago following his visit to check the damage.
“I wish to express my thanks to the PWD teams both at the headquarters and at district level for their commitment to address the matter,” he said.
He said that the district frequently experienced damaged roads and bridges due to the rampant flooding there.
