Loan applicant cheated of RM7,300 instead

-

MIRI: A 35-year-old man who wanted to borrow RM40,000 was instead cheated of RM7,300 in a loan scam.

It is learnt that the self-employed victim first came across an online advertisement on personal loan on Oct 16.

He immediately applied for a loan amounting RM40,000 online. On Oct 19, he received a message from a man, claiming to be from the company’s finance department, saying his loan had been approved.

However, he needs to pay RM1,300 for supporting documents to which the victim agreed.

That same day, the man then asked the victim to pay another RM6,000 as processing fee. The victim, without suspecting anything, went to pay the amount via three transactions.

He only realised he had been cheated when the man asked for another RM4,000 for other miscellaneous fees.
