TAWAU: Commanding officer of the 516 Regiment of the Territorial Army for East Coast, Brigadier General Tan Sri Datuk Liew Yun Fah (JP) has arranged to lend three vans to the Tawau District Disaster Management Committee in order to transport the visiting doctors and nurses from West Malaysia to work and return home every day.

Besides lending them a van (which belongs to Liew's company, Reko Bumi Travel Agency Sdn Bhd), he also thanked Datuk Dr Lim Teck Kiong for kindly lending his van (belonging to Lim's company, Scuba Tiger Resort) as well as another van from Muhibbah Motor Malaysia Sdn Bhd. Lim is also the chairman of Federation of Chinese Associations, Tawau.

The three drivers are all from the 516th Regiment of Territory Army and they are responsible to send the doctors and nurses during their commute to work in Tawau every day.

The keys were handed over by Jecky Kau (left) to Mejar Tajuddin witnessed by Liew together with the deputy director of Tawau hospital Dr Azman Ibrahim and Amirullah from Tawau municipal council.

Liew hoped the three vans could resolve the daily transportation problem faced by the doctors and nurses from West Malaysia, who are currently serving in Tawau during the pandemic.

“I'm also worried about the increasing number of Covid19 cases every day and I urge those who are capable to step up and lend their hands to the front liners in order to lighten the burden of the Tawau District Disaster Management Committee,” he said.

According to him, many of the frontliners including medical officers work for 12 hours, with some even working up to 24 hours daily.
