Uggah: Don't fall for opposition's pre-election promises
MIRI: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah says the opposition will resort to making all kind of sweet promises to the people now that the state election is around the corner.
When closing a two-day Agriculture Community Outreach Programme (AgriCOP) at Long Loyang in Ulu Baram yesterday, he advised the people not to be easily misled by their election promises.
He advised them to learn from past mistake when they supported a member of parliament and an assemblyman from the opposition.
"They (opposition) did not deliver anything significant to the people. They failed to deliver what they had promised. The situation is very much different now.
"Your representative now, Dennis Ngau (Telang Usan assemblyman) who is in the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government has done well and achieved a lot for you.
"He is young, hard working and is full of ideas on how to bring in more development. He is also vocal in bringing your needs in the state legislative assembly sittings.
"He has behind him a very stable andstrong GPS government whose objectives are to serve the people and to protect the state's rights and wealth,” he said.
He went on to say that having Dennis to serve them again after the next election was for their continued benefits.
"So my advice is to give him your votes. Let him and the GPS government win handsomely. The GPS government has also made it one of its core objectives to properly develop the rural areas.”
He said the Highland Development Authority was created out of this concern, where an initial budget of RM1.5 billion had been allocated to implement basic infrastructure like roads and bridges.
"Dennis like other GPS reps here are actively involved in this. Do not derail what are being implemented and planned by supporting nonGPS candidates in the election. There are still much more to be done.
"The state government is also planning for development projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan. We want Dennis to be involved," he said.
On agriculture, he said Telang Usan with its vast land had huge potential for the growing of coffee, durian, pineapple, herbs and 'terong asam' (local eggplant), and livestock rearing.
Uggah, who is also Minister of Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development added that RM2million had been allocated to implement various agriculture programmes and activities in Telang Usan.
He also announced an additional grant of RM500,000 for the same purpose.
