524 new cases, two deaths in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded 524 new positive Covid-19 cases, two deaths and 512 recoveries yesterday, said Local Government and Housing Minister and Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun.

Masidi who is also the state official Covid-19 spokespers­on added that the cumulative case amounted to 20,422 thus far.

“Based on the report of Sabah State Health Department, the number of new Covid-19 positive cases in the state is 524. Today, two deaths were recorded, namely one in Tawau and one in Sandakan. Condolence­s to all the families involved,” he said here yesterday.

“Today, a total of 512 Covid-19 patients have been discharged/ recovered from the hospital. Meanwhile, a total of 3,481 patients are undergoing treatment, namely 767 people in the hospital and 2,714 people in PKRC (Covid Quarantine and Treatment Centre).

“The number of Covid-19 patients in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) is 74 and 19 people require the ventilated aid equipment,” he added.

Masidi said Tawau recorded 140 Covid-19 cases, followed by Kota Kinabalu (135), Sandakan (119), Lahad Datu (37), Tuaran (30), Keningau (15), Penampang (11), Putatan (11), Papar (10), Kota Belud (7), Semporna (3), Kota Marudu (3), Telupid (2) and Sipitang (1).

He said no new cases have been reported in Kudat, Tambunan, Kunak, Tongod, Beaufort, Kuala Penyu, Beluran, Pitas, Kinabatang­an, Ranau, Tenom, and Nabawan.

He added the red zone areas in Sabah remained at 14 districts and no new clusters have been found.

“Of the 524 Covid-19 positive cases today, a total of 252 cases (48.09%) were in Tawau, Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan Districts that had been caused by close contact screening. The remaining 272 cases are from other categories.

“The total bed capacity at Covid19 Hospital are 962 beds. Meanwhile, the PKRC has 8,583 beds, making it a total of 9,545 beds. The percentage of bed use today is 36.47 percent,” he said.
