KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded 660 new Covid-19 cases yesterday and remained at the top among states in the country.

State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun said Sandakan recorded the highest number of cases with 316 cases followed by Lahad Datu (105) and Kota Kinabalu (95).

It is understood that 218 of the cases recorded in Sandakan came from the Sandakan Prison Cluster and another 18 cases came from the Jambatan B Cluster while the remaining 80 cases came from the other existing clusters in the district.

As for Lahad Datu, a big chunk of its cases (91) came from the Sabaru Cluster.

“No new clusters were recorded today (Thursday),” Masidi, who is the State’s official spokesman for Covid-19 updates, said in his daily press conference yesterday.

Two more patients died of Covid-19 in Sabah yesterday, one in Sandakan and another in Lahad Datu.

A total of 419 Covid-19 patients in the state recovered from the virus yesterday.

Meanwhile, Director-General of Health Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said yesterday Sabah still topped other states in number of Covid-19 cases in the country, which recorded 1,290 new Covid-19 cases and four deaths.

This was followed by Selangor with 407 cases.

“A high number of 250 reported cases in Sabah stems from clusters associated with the Temporary Detention Centre, lockups and prisons.

“The rise in the number of cases in Selangor is from the Teratai Cluster (245 cases) and the new Kapas BJ Cluster (55 cases). These two clusters are associated with work places comprising noncitizens,” he said.

Dr Noor Hisham also announced the detection of four new clusters - Kapas BJ in Selangor; Prestij in Kuala Lumpur; Bah Bercham in Perak and Kiambang in Johor - taking the number of active clusters being monitored to 165.

“Fifty-four of these clusters reported a rise in the number of cases, with a large number of increases in the Teratai Cluster (245 cases); Sandakan Prison Cluster (215) and Kapas BJ Cluster (55),” he said.
