LABUAN: All 118 Labuan prison staff and 326 inmates have have tested negative for Covid-19, said Labuan Correctional Centre director Abd Rauf Lang Pasih.

He said the screening for the staff was conducted two weeks ago and the inmates on Wednesday.

“In efforts to prevent the spread of the virus, we have had a screening exercise for all the staff regardless of their rank and position two weeks ago.

“We are glad to have received the results for all the staff that came out negative and that is certainly a great relief to all of us to discharge our duties smoothly,” he told Bernama yesterday.

Abd Rauf said the mass screening for the inmates was the initiative of the Labuan Health Department in collaboration with the correctional centre personnel. “We have followed strictly the standard operating procedures (SOPs) from the National Security Council (NSC) in discharging our routine duties on the inmates and that greatly helped us to feel secure,” he said.

Labuan Health Department director Dr Ismuni Bohari said the mass screening initiative on the inmates was part of active case detection (ACD) throughout the duty-freeisland.

“We have completed the screening for the staff and inmates which was held at the centre’s compound, and we hope we have done our part for the inmates,” he said.

As of November 16, Labuan has 1, 199 cumulative cases with five active clusters namely Saguking 397 cases, Tenaga (229), Titian (67), Limbungan (54) and Bina (50). -
