JCI Senators, foundation purchase medical equipment for frontliner­s

KOTA KINABALU: The Associatio­n of JCI Senators in the South East Asian Nations (ASSEAN) together with Crocodile Foundation Ltd has raised RM41,972.17 to help purchase medical equipment for frontliner­s and patients in Sabah.

With the amount, they were able to purchase one unit of High Flow Nasal Cannula and three units of powered air purifying respirator­s together with masks and sanitizers.

The contributi­on from ASSEAN and Crocodile Foundation Ltd was handed over to the Malaysian Medical Associatio­n Sabah Branch (MMA Sabah) Chairman Professor Dr Kew Seih Teck by ASSEAN Deputy President, Datuk Dr Marcus Makin Mojigoh.

JCI Senator Patricia Poh, Vice President (Malaysia) said that the MMA Sabah Branch through Dato Dr Jaswant Singh haD approached ASSEAN for funding to purchase equipment to be used throughout Sabah for the treatment of Covid-19 patients and frontliner­s.

On Oct 12, the ASSEAN Board of Directors endorsed the Project under the ambit of ASSEAN Foundation to raise funds to assist MMA Sabah to purchase the much-needed equipment under the chairmansh­ip of Patricia.

“The Board also encouraged other Asean countries to raise funds to assist in the fight against the Covid-19 virus raging in their countries,” said Patricia.

She added that the donation drive started on Oct 12 throughout Whatsapp groups and phone calls.

“Pledges started coming in from Assean members and their families and friends from as far as USA. Thanks to Singapore Senate for their monetary assistance and strong support in getting a matching grant from Crocodile Foundation Ltd. A submission was submitted and a donation of RM15,500 was approved with an agreement signed on Oct 28. Fund collection closed on Nov 6 with a total of RM41,972.17,” she said.

Also present during the handing over ceremony held at Queen Elizabeth Hospital was Dr Harivintha­n Sellapan, SCHOMOS (MMA’s Section Concerning House Officers and Medical Officers) Chairman.

Meanwhile, Marcus expressed his appreciati­on to the donors.

“On behalf of the Sabah people, we would like to extend our sincere appreciati­on and thanks to all the donors. We hope that this pandemic attacking our people will end soon,” he said.
