Swinburne Sarawak’s academics rank among world’s top scientists
KUCHING: Swinburne Sarawak academics, including its deputy vice-chancellor and chief executive officer Professor John Wilson and pro vicechancellor (Research) Professor Ajay Kapoor have been ranked in the top two per cent among scientists in the world.
A science-wide author database of standardised citation indicators developed and led by Stanford University’s Professor John Loannidis has ranked Wilson and Kapoor under Career Long Citation Impact category.
Swinburne’s School of Business head Professor Lim Weng Marc ,director of Research Centre for Sustainable Technologies associate professor Jaka Sunarso and electrical and electronics engineering senior lecturer Dr Jubaer Ahmed also ranked in that percentile under Single Calendar Year Impact category.
Wilson who has been leading Swinburne Sarawak since December 2017 is a fellow of Institution of Engineers Australia; a chartered and registered professional engineer specialising in structural systems, earthquake engineering, and civil infrastructure.
He recently received RW Chapman medal from Engineers Australia for a paper on ‘RC walls in Australia: seismic design and detailing to AS 1170.4 and AS 3600’ co-written with Dr Scott Menegon, research fellow at Swinburne University of Technology; Professor Nelson Lam, leader of Structures and Buildings in the Department of Infrastructure Engineering at University of Melbourne, Australia; and Peter McBean, joint managing director of Wallbridge Gilbert Aztec.
Meanwhile, Kapoor is instrumental in facilitating collaborative research aligned with Sarawak government’s digital economy, smart farming and clean energy and spearheads Swinburne’s international research engagement activities in India and South East Asia.
Lim who focuses on finding blue ocean strategies to help businesses navigate and succeed with agility in an increasingly competitive and dynamic business environment, actively conducts and publishes research on business strategy and behavioural change. Lim was a discussion leader and panellist at Unesco and World Economic Forum events.
Jaka who is a senior staff at School of Chemical Engineering and Science is a chartered engineer from Energy Institute UK with research on the development and characterisation of electrochemical-based materials for sustainable energy delivery including batteries, fuel cells, membranes, and hydrogen related technologies. He has established a research group for biomass conversion to fuels and value-added products at the Sarawak campus.
Meanwhile, Jubaer, a chartered professional engineer and a discipline leader for electrical and electronics engineering programme at Swinburne, focuses on the study of photovoltaic system, renewable energy, application of machine learning algorithms in power systems, and designing converter/inverter topologies.
