Serve all people regardless of political ideology – Joachim

-

RANAU: Grassroots leaders are reminded to give their services to people irrespective of political ideology.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr. Joachim Gunsalam said this is to ensure no one will be left out from the benefits channeled by the government.

He said leaders at the grassroots like village heads, Mukim developers, village development and security management committee (JPKK) chairmen and personnel of the Community Development Leader Unit (UPPM) need to strive giving the best service to the community fairly.

"There should not be any biasness that will give negative perception among the people on the government of the day.

"However, grassroots leaders also need to be wise in evaluating status of recipients of government aides.

"We want only those who are really eligible for assistance such as from the e-Kasih programme and not those who are registered as recipients simply because they are related to local community leaders. This is unacceptable," he said.

Joachim who is also Minister of Industrial Development said this during a gathering and dialogue for Mukim Kundasang political appointees here.

According to him, the Rural Development Ministry in collaboration with the district office would continue to organise leadership courses and empower grassroots leadership beginning early next year.

He hoped the community leaders would take advantage of these courses to strengthen administration of their respective area.

At same time, Joachim who is also Kundasang assemblyman, urged community leaders under political appointment in Kundasang to revive the leadership joint-committee to discuss common issues.

"The committee should include representatives of parties aligned to the government involving those from the Member of Parliament office, councillors, UPPM, native chiefs, native chief representatives and JPKK," he said.

Kundasang state constituency has eight Mukim.
