FKA Twigs sues Shia LaBeouf over physical, emotional abuse allegations
THE singer FKA Twigs sued actor Shia LaBeouf on Friday over allegations of “relentless abuse” over the course of their nearly year-long relationship, including physical assault, sexual ba ery and emotional distress.
“Shia LaBeouf hurts women,” the complaint states. “He uses them. He abuses them, both physically and mentally. He is dangerous. For too long, LaBeouf has sought to excuse his reprehensible actions as the eccentricities of a freethinking ‘artist.’ Even though his history of violent behaviour was well documented, many in the media have treated LaBeouf as a harmless figure of fun, which has helped enable him to perpetuate his cycle of abuse of women over the years.”
The New York Times broke news of the complaint that Twigs, born Tahliah Debre Barne , filed in Los Angeles Superior
Court. Barne , a Grammynominated singer from England, and LaBeouf, an American actor known for the Transformers franchise, met as co-stars on the set of his semi-autobiographical film “Honey Boy.”
The document narrows in on several incidents from throughout their relationship, including one that took place between Barne , 32, and LaBeouf, 34, around Valentine’s Day last year. As they drove home from a hotel spa, where Barne says she awoke at night to LaBeouf “squeezing her body and arms against her will,” the actor allegedly stopped the car at a gas station, slammed Barne against the vehicle and choked her as she a empted to escape.
Barne told the Times she came forward to “raise awareness on the tactics that abusers use to control you and take away your agency.”
