RANAU: The State Government will continue to prioritise the welfare of the rural community to ensure they will not be left out from the main stream of development, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr. Joachim Gunsalam.

Joachim said it was imperative that benefits from all development programmes implemented by the government reaches the community across the board, especially those in the rural areas.

He added that other than government assistance, it was also important for the community themselves to strive to improve their lives and progress in their respective villages through various beneficial activities.

“On the part of the government, we will always place the rural community’s welfare first in ensuring no one is left behind from development,” he said.

Jaochim who is also Industrial Development Minister cum Kundasang assemblyman said this at the meet-the-people session and handing over of a house to a physically-challenged man, Ajidey Pulis, at Kampung Mesilau here on Tuesday.

Construction of the house was funded by contribution from villagers and Joachim himself.

“We welcome initiative of nongovernmental organisations (NGO) that complement the government’s efforts to lessen the burden of the people,” he said.

He also gave the NGOs and villagers a pat on the back for their emphaty and helping one another regardless of backgrounds.

“I am thankful to be able to meet and sit with the people in Kampung Mesilau. I also take this opportunity to congratulate to all, whether directly or indirectly, involved in the construction of the house for Ajidey Pulis,” he said.
