Crime cases in KK drop 19% – Habibi

-

KOTA KINABALU: There has been a significant decline in crime cases in the state capital following the government's implementation of the movement control order (MCO) and subsequently the conditional movement control order (CMCO) in combating the Covid-19 global pandemic.

District police chief, ACP Habibi Majinji said between January 1 and December 17 this year, the Kota Kinabalu Police Contingent (IPD KK) has recorded 965 crime cases, which were 19.18 percent less than the 1,194 cases in the same period in 2019.

“This shows a drop of 229 cases recorded by IPD KK,” he said.

Elaborating on the MCO and CMCO, Habibi said a total of 812 people had been issued with compounds by the police for violating the movement control order.

He said 254 compounds were issued during the first phase of the MCO (between March and October), while in the second phase of the CMCO (between October and December 16), 558 compounds had been issued.

Meanwhile, Habibi said more than 200 of his officers and personnel had undergone quarantine resulting in about 50 of them were tested positive with Covid-19.

“This shows just how fast this virus can spread, especially towards frontliners who are constantly on the ground and may be exposed with this deadly virus.

I therefore remind the public to continue staying safe and to abide by the SOP (standard operating procedure) so we can help stop this virus from spreading further,” he said during the monthly gathering at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing here, yesterday.

Yesterday's event saw 67 police officers, personnel, civil servants and members of the public received certificates of appreciation from Habibi for their contribution and working relationship with the police throughout the year.

Also present at the event was Superintendent George Abdul Rakman.
