Landslide issue in Pitas to be looked into – assistant minister

KOTA MARUDU: The State Government will continue its efforts in inspecting and assisting the flood and landslide victims, especially in Kota Marudu, Kudat and Pitas.

Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Wetrom Bahanda said that the continuous downpour, which started early this week, had brought flood and landslide problems to the three districts.

“Since Monday, the evacuation centres for the affected victims had been opened and as it stands, everything is under control.

“The State Government including myself, who is a leader in this area, would continue to monitor this situation as we do not want these victims to be left unattended,” said Wetrom after he visited and handed out assistance to the flood victims in Kota Marudu, on Tuesday.

The Bandau assemblyma­n said that assistance and rescue works would constantly be carried out by the relevant authoritie­s.

He is confident that the rescue team are well prepared to carry out their duty at any time.

Wetrom revealed that the landslide issue in the Pitas main road would be promptly looked into.

He will ensure that the road connectivi­ty in Pitas will not be affected by the said problem.

Wetrom further disclosed that he has instructed the Public Works Department (PWD) to resolve the landslide problem.

“I am confident the PWD will act swiftly and remain prepared in the event that another landslide would occur due to the flood,” he said.

He said that a 24-hour disaster operation room had been set up in Kota Marudu to monitor the situation.
