Lion dance associatio­ns strengthen rapport with State Govt

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Dragon, Unicorn & Lion Dance Associatio­n has paid a courtesy call on the Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Abidin Madingkir.

Its president, Dr Danny Kok expressed his gratitude to the state government, led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, for constantly caring for the welfare of the lion dance associatio­ns in Sabah by handing over donations for the past 10 years.

He said that, in the past 10 years, many lion dance, dragon and unicorn associatio­ns as well as temples and schools had benefitted from the motion which was brought upon by his associatio­n back in 2009.

“The culture of the Chinese community has been preserved due to the strong support from the state government and this has been a blessing to the community here in Sabah as a whole,” said Danny in a statement yesterday.

Also present during the courtesy call were Sabah Dragon, Unicorn & Lion Dance Associatio­n deputy president Francis Cham and secretary Tony Wong.

Meanwhile, Abidin applauded the contributi­ons made by the associatio­n, under the leadership of Danny, for their commitment and cooperatio­n in assisting the state in promoting the Chinese culture in Sabah.

He said that Danny has played an active role in connecting the lion dance associatio­ns in Sabah with the state government.

“Their culture has attracted many internatio­nal tourists.

“I also hope that these associatio­ns would soon be expanded nationally and internatio­nally,” he said.

Abidin had been working together with Danny to empower the Chinese community in Sabah, since his stint as the mayor several years ago.
