PGRS backs MCO to curb Covid-19

-

TAWAU: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) vice president Wong Su Vui said the Movement Control Order (MCO) will be able to break the chain of Covid-19 and agrees with the government’s decision.

“Good decision (MCO) to break the Covid-19 chain, because without the MCO control, the problem of Covid-19 cannot be solved,” he said when commenting on the MCO from January 13 to 26.

Wong said the MCO is very suitable for our society for the purpose of overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic and minimizing economic disruption.

The Prime Minister on Tuesday announced Sabah including Selangor, Pulau Pinang, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Labuan, Malacca and Johore will be under MCO following the spike of Covid-19 cases in the country.

District police had set up oadblocks located at KM 50 Check Point, Tiku Road, Mile 2.5 Apas Road, Kuhara Road, Tawau Lama Road, Tanjung Batu Road, North Road Jambatan Putih junction and Kalabakan Road Check Point.

Businessman Datuk Lo Fui Ming said the government has taken the needs and desires of many groups of people into account, including their health, safety and economy. Notwithstanding the MCO, five essential economic sectors are allowed to operate, namely manufacturing, construction, services, trade and distributions, and plantations and commodities in order to achieve a healthy work-life and economic balance.

“Indeed, people will only have income and be able to survive with sustainable economic growth. In view of the continuous increasing Covid-19 cases nowadays, I urge everyone to strictly comply with the stated SOPs and maintain personal hygiene and social distancing at all times,” he further expressed.

According to him, the government should also provide appropriate assistance such as living allowance to those who are unemployed during this epidemic.

And if all economic sectors are completely blocked during MCO, he believed at least half of the small and medium enterprises will face the doom of shutting down business, resulting in the increase of criminal cases and social problems. It directly threatens public security and harmony.
