FMM Sarawak: Industries need to remain vigilant in face of Covid-19

-

KUCHING: The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) Sarawak Branch fully supports the state government’s effort in combating the further spread of Covid-19 infection.

FMM Sarawak Branch chairman Datuk Sri Victor Hii Lu Thian recapped that Sarawak has been recording a spike in the number of Covid-19 cases especially in Kuching, Sibu and Miri which have been declared as red zones recently.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas had announced that the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) will be enforced in Kuching, Sibu and Miri beginning January 13 until January 26, 2021.

“These districts, now categorised as zones, will include Kuching, Samarahan and Serian districts for Kuching Zone; Sibu and Sarikei for Sibu Zone; and Miri District for Miri Zone,” Hii noted.

As such, FMM Sarawak Branch fully supports the state government’s effort in combating the further spread of Covid-19 infection.

“Undoubtedly, the enforcement of CMCO in these Red Zones will cause disruption in operations and the supply chain of some industry players.

“However, FMM Sarawak Branch shares the government’s view that the CMCO is a necessary short term inconvenience for the long term benefit of the economy and the industries in Sarawak.”

Given the current situation, FMM Sarawak Branch urged all industry players to be innovative in their processes by leveraging on technology, digitalisation and automation to minimise disruption to their operations caused by the Covid19 pandemic.

Lastly, FMM Sarawak Branch is urging and reminding the industry to adhere strictly to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and precautionary measures to fight and contain the spread of Covid-19 infection.

“Industry players are also responsible for taking care of the safety, health and general wellbeing of their employees to prevent major outbreaks which will cause further disruption to their operation.”

FMM Sarawak invites all industry players to join forces with both the federal and state government in complying with the SOPs and measures enforced.
