YMM donates RM150,000 PPE, essentials to frontliners
THE largest Chinese youth organization in Malaysia, Young Malaysians Movement (YMM), has contributed personal protective equipment (PPE) and other essential items worth a total of RM150,000 to frontliners in Sabah to date.
In line with its mission to educate youth and encourage the younger generation to participate in social service activities, YMM has engaged members of the public in its various initiatives to support frontliners who are battling against Covid-19.
Since the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) last March, YMM branches in Sabah have collaborated with other organizations in aiding target groups. Their efforts included working with Jetsin Sdn Bhd in providing meals to frontliners, Covid-19 aid programme, rendering assistance to learning institutions, Covid-Hero with Junior Chamber International (JCI) Sabah branch and a RM10 charity project in support of frontliners.
YMM Sabah branch chairman Alvin Saw said the movement has raised RM150,000 from YMM headquarters, state branches, divisions and the public, as well as allocation from the Sabah branch itself to fund the various charity programmes and provide frontliners with more resources to protect them against the virus.
He said the funds raised enabled the movement to procure over 500,000 pieces of face masks, 30,000 pieces of protective coveralls, more than 20,000 pieces of KN95 face mask, face shields, food and other equipment to address the pressing need of frontline personnel.
Saw said Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters (IPD), Sabah Prison Department, Menggatal Temporary Detention Centre, Sandakan Hospital, Duchess of Kent Hospital, Sandakan, Semporna Hospital, Semporna Health Department, Lahad Datu Hospital, Lahad Datu Health Department, Lahad Datu IPD, Beaufort Hospital, Sandakan Prison and quarantine centres throughout Sabah have benefitted from the donation.
In addition, YMM Sabah, in collaboration with Beaufort, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tanjung Aru, Tawau, Sandakan and Lahad Datu branches, have launched an assistance programme to donate PPE to learning institutions. The recipients are Beaufort Middle School, SJK(C) Kung Ming Beaufort, SKC Anglo Chinese, SJK(C) Che Hwa Kolombong, SJK(C) Yick Nam Inanam, Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School, Sekolah Menengah Kian Kok, SJK(C) Kung Ming Tawau, SJK(C) Phui Yuk Tawau, SJK(C) Kuok Ming Tawau, SJK(C) Hing Hwa Tawau, SJK(C) Chung Hwa Tawau, Tawau Benevolent Care Centre, SMK Muhibbah Sandakan, SMK Konven St Cecilia, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Tiong Hua, SMK Ageseh Lahad Datu, Lahad Datu Middle School and Sekolah Menengah St Dominic.
Saw, who is also the national vice president of YMM, expressed his deepest gratitude to the public and other organizations for their support and assistance to its charity programmes, especially Jetsin Sdn Bhd, JCI Sabah branch and the YMM team.
He said the movement would continue to educate youths in serving the community through various social activities and platforms.
