-

TAWAU: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KDPNHEP) Tawau branch enforcement team conducted a survey and inspection yesterday morning at Century Supermarket, Apas Road, and two wholesale premises around Tawau in conjunction with the first day of the Chinese New Year Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) CNY 2021, which will last until February 16.

The enforcement team led by district enforcement chief officer, Aslani Dabi together with district deputy enforcement officer, Yapp Kon Fatt, conducted checks to ensure the maximum price is valid for nine days from February 8 to 16.

Aslani said 15 types of items from the category of chicken, chicken eggs, vegetables, seafood and pork will be controlled at maximum prices in conjunction with the SHMMP for this Chinese New Year 2021 which is similar to the CNY 2020 SHMMP.

Apart from the review of the SHMMP implementation, he said the monitoring also aimed at ensuring that the supply of other necessities is always adequate, easily available and sold at reasonable prices.

The team also monitored the level of compliance of traders and consumers on the standard operating procedure (SOP) of the Movement Control Order (MCO) which is in force until February 18, 2021, he said.

Aslani also advised traders to run their businesses ethically and adhere to the set price, and encouraged them to sell at a lower than the maximum price.

Traders are also reminded to display pink price tags for SHMMP controlled items for CNY 2021, by showing clear price tagging, ensure supply is always adequate and easily available to consumers and continue to comply with the MCO SOP.

He said continuous inspections would be conducted at all times to ensure traders comply with the orders under this scheme and KPDNHEP will conduct immediate investigations into complaints received and take appropriate action against traders who do not abide by the laws and regulations enforced.

He said a total of 58 premises have been inspected since the implementation of SHMMP which started on February 8, and found that all premises complied with the maximum price set as well as having adequate and easily available supply.
