Bangkuai takes over as PBS secretary general
PENAMPANG: A combination of new and senior faces in the Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) proves that the party welcomes injection of new blood in the party.
Describin the recent major leadership restructuring as part of PBS president’s effort to rejuvenate the party, the newly appointed secretary general Datuk Joniston Bangkuai said the move is timely with the move to groom future leaders.
“The new line-up is strong, and we will not only continue to echo the president’s voice in PBS, but work consistently together,” said Bangkuai after officially taking over the duties from outgoing Datuk Jahid Jahim, who was promoted as the party’s deputy president.
A simple handing over ceremony was held between Jahid and Bangkuai at the PBS headquarters here, yesterday.
Bangkuai added that the appointment of new assemblymen, Hendrus Anding (Tandek) as his assistant, and Johnnybone Kurum (Telupid) as assistant Information chief, shows that the party is embracing change without ignoring the expertise of senior leaders.
“This is a good synergy, combining the old and new faces, which would also serve as a training ground for them to lead the party in the future,” he said.
Jahid, meanwhile, expressed confidence with the president’s efforts, especially in re-organising the party’s line-up.
“We all have our mission and hopes, and believe the task given comes with great responsibilities.
“The president’s expectations for this new line-up are so high. Therefore, we will work hard to fulfill the hopes and aspirations of the party president. But this is only possible if everyone works together,” said Jahid.
Also promoted was former assistant secretary general, Datuk Julita Majungki, who now holds the information chief post; Supreme Council member Mursid Mohd Rais was promoted to vice president; Dr Samuil Mopun is made Supreme Council member, and Stanis Buandi as the organising secretary.
