Eight companies to sponsor national rugby team to Asian meet

IPOH: Eight private sector companies have agreed to sponsor the national 15-a-side rugby team to participate in the Asian Rugby Championship (ARC) in May, said Malaysia Rugby Union (MRU) president Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya.

Without disclosing the names of the companies, he said the sponsorships included appointing an experienced coach from New Zealand to guide the team.

‘'We are very thankful there are private sector companies willing to sponsor us although the amounts are not so big since the economic situation now is not too good due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

‘'If a company could sponsor up to RM2 million in the past, it is a bit difficult now. We will try to seek financial aid from more companies before the championship,'' he said.
