Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) deputy president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal will not be defending his post at the FAM Executive , Committee election to be held during the 57th FAM Congress on March 13.
KUALA LUMPUR: Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) deputy president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal will not be defending his post at the FAM Executive Committee election to be held during the 57th FAM Congress on March 13.
This was confirmed after the list of 27 candidates to contest in the election for the term 2021-2025 was released by the FAM Electoral Committee yesterday, where only Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi and Datuk S. Sivasundaram were named to fill the deputy president posts.
The fight for four vicepresidential seats, meanwhile, sees former FAM deputy president Datuk Seri Afandi Hamzah looking for an opportunity to return, after failing to defend his position during FAM's 53rd congress in 2017.
Afandi, who had once served as FAM acting president is among five candidates contesting for the seat besides Datuk Rosmadi Ismail, Datuk Posa Majais, Mohd Joehari Mohd Ayub and Mohd Firdaus Mohamed.
At the same time, a fierce competition is expected for executive committee seats as the previous six incumbents are set to be challenged by 11 new faces to fill the eight seats available.
The 11 new contestants include individuals who have previously held or are currently holding important positions in state football associations (FA).
Among them are former Perak Football Association (PAFA) deputy president Datuk Adly Shah Ahmad Tah, Kelantan Football Association (KAFA) acting president Datuk Shaari Mat Hussain and Selangor Football Association (FAS) deputy president Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar.
Meanwhile, Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin is expected to win the FAM presidency uncontested after emerging as the sole candidate, while Datuk Suraya Yaacob and Dr Siti Faidul Maisarah Abdullah were not challenged to fill the two seats for women executive committee members.
“After the deadline for the candidates to return the Nomination Acceptance Confirmation Form at 5.30 pm yesterday, 27 candidates have stated their acceptance to be nominated for the stated positions, and one rejected his nomination,” the FAM Electoral Committee said in a statement yesterday.
It added that all 27 candidates passed the screening process carried out by the FAM Integrity Unit involving the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), as well as the bankruptcy status check with the Malaysian Insolvency Department.
