No Parliament sitting March 8

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Parliament will not reconvene on March 8 as there are several procedures that needed to be fine-tuned, said Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Rashid Hasnon.

“There will be no Parliament sitting as reported by the media. There are a few procedures needed, so it will not be as early as March 8,” he said.

Rashid said that March 8 date was no longer in force since the Emergency was declared.

He also said that the Parliament secretariat must give MPs notice of a meeting at least 28 days in advance.

“There are procedures we need to adhere to before we can convene the seating,” he said.

An officer from Parliament requesting anonymity also confirmed that there will be no sitting on March 8.

The official dates for the next Parliament sitting has yet to be announced, although the Yang diPertuan Agong had on February 24 decreed that Parliament could reconvene even during the Emergency period.
