Nabawan leads in new Covid-19 cases

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah recorded 134 new positive Covid-19 cases, zero deaths, and 161 recoveries yesterday (February 28).

“According to the report of Sabah State Health Department, the number of new Covid-19 positive cases in the state today is 134, bringing the cumulative total to 52,886 cases. No death was reported today,” said Sabah Covid-19 Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun yesterday.

“Today, a total of 161 Covid-19 patients have been discharged or recovered from the hospital, taking the cumulative recovery total to 51,523.

"A total of 713 patients are receiving treatment, namely 257 people in the hospitals, 448 at the public Covid Quarantine and Lowrisk Treatment Centres (PKRC) and eight at the Temporary Detention Centres (PTS) or prisons.

“The number of Covid-19 patients in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) is 35 and 17 people require ventilators,” said Masidi, the Local Government and Housing Minister and Finance Minister II.

Masidi said Nabawan recorded 43 positive cases, the highest in Sabah per district yesterday, followed by Kinabatangan (19), Kota Kinabalu (14), Tawau (14), Kunak (12), Keningau (seven), Kalabakan (six), Kota Marudu (five), Tuaran (three), Kudat (three), Lahad Datu (two), Kota Belud (two), Sandakan (one), Beluran (one), Semporna (one) and Sipitang (one).

No new cases were found in Penampang, Papar, Putatan, Beaufort, Pitas, Tambunan, Tenom, Telupid, Ranau, Kuala Penyu and Tongod.

Papar and Kota Belud changed from the red zone to the orange zone, and no new clusters were reported yesterday.

Masidi added of the 134 positive cases yesterday, 48 (35.8%) were from close contact screening, nine (6.7%) from symptomatic screening, 71 (53.1%) from existing cluster screening, three (2.2%) from Socso screening and three (2.2%) from other categories.

The total bed capacity at Covid-19 Hospitals is 785 units, the Quarantine and Low Risk Treatment Centres (PKRC) have a total of 3913 units and the total beds at Temporary Detention Centres (PTS) or prisons remain at 1000 units.

This brings the total bed capacity to 5,698 units, and the percentage of bed usage was 12.51% yesterday.

Meanwhile, Masidi said up to February 18, 2021, 264,239 Prihatin Covid-19 2.0 food baskets have been distributed to the targeted group in Sabah.
