Foreigner jailed, fined for abetting in bribing cops

KOTA KINABALU: A foreign man was jailed for two days and fined a total of RM20,000, in default, eight months' jail by the Sessions Court here for two charges of abetting with a man to bribe two cops as an inducement not to take action against him and another man for allegedly possessing contraband cigarettes last year.

Judge Abu Bakar Manat imposed the sentences on Mujahid Ali Aman Ullah after the latter admitted to both the charges under Section 28 (1) (c), read together with Section 17 (b), both of the Malaysian AntiCorrup­tion Commission Act 2009.

On the first count, the accused was jailed for one day and fined RM10,000, in default, four months' imprisonme­nt for abetting with a man and bribed a senior police officer of RM500 as payment not to take action against him (the accused) at a shop here on April 22, 2020.

The accused received another same punishment for his second count of abetting with another man to bribe a police constable of RM500 as an inducement not to take action against another man at the same place on March 23, 2020,.

The court ordered the accused, who was defended by counsel Erveana Ansari, to serve his jail terms concurrent­ly from the date of his conviction.
