Cooperate with civil servants in Covid-19 fight – police

-

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali has reminded the public to cooperate with civil servants and personnel responsible for Covid-19 prevention.

There is no need to point fingers or place blame on personnel who have been working hard to curb the spread of the virus, he said, in light of public threats to health officials at the Nabawan Health Office.

“We are aware that Covid-19 cases in Nabawan have increased in the past few days, and that has been tied to a cluster that attended a funeral. There is no need to blame those carrying out their duties in light of the pandemic,” said Hazani.

He reminded the public to abide by standard operating procedures and prevention guidelines to ensure prevention of the virus.

Hazani was speaking to the press at the launch of the statelevel National Immunisation Programme yesterday, where he was one of the first 60 recipients of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine in the state.

The other recipients included Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor and State Health Director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi.

In the first phase of vaccine deployment, Hazani said 4,338 police personnel are expected to be inoculated before the entire 19,000-strong force will complete the vaccination process.

He said members of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in Sabah will receive the vaccine from Vaccine Dispensing Centres (VDC) according to district, as determined by the Sabah Health Department.

In a separate development, Hazani said police will launch a special operation against squatters and illegal immigrants once the Covid-19 situation is controlled. He said this in response to the squatters' community in Sembulan, which had been going viral on social media.

"We will take appropriate action against these communities, but we have to make sure we are in the clear first, in terms of Covid-19. We don't want to take the risk," he said.

On whether or not these communities will be vaccinated, Hazani said it depends on the state government.
