- By Fiqah Roslan

KOTA KINABALU: The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) together with the Sabah Education Department (JPNS) have agreed to find a solution to traffic jams during peak school hours at hot spots throughout the state.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali said the PDRM took serious note of information shared by JPNS regarding the ma er.

“We will discuss further with JPNS to ensure smooth traffic flow at school ‘hot spots’ that have been identified,” he said, when met by reporters during a visit to SK Darau near here, yesterday.

According to Hazani, emphasis is given to schools near main roads which are also exposed to risk of traffic congestion during peak hours, whether during the beginning or end of the school day. This is to ensure smooth, uninterrupted traffic flow to allow parents and guardians be er access to schools, he added.

Hazani further said that all officers and members of the PDRM who had been appointed relations officers at primary and secondary schools, are to resume their duties as usual. He added that he would see to it personally that relations officers go down to the ground to monitor the compliance of standard operating procedures (SOP).

“As a result of today’s (yesterday’s) visit, I am satisfied that the school and teachers are taking the necessary steps to ensure SOPs are observed by students. We also hope teachers will be given the Covid-19 vaccine earlier as they are exposed to various communities as frontliners,” said Hazani.
