Digitalization will improve govt services – State Secretary

-

KOTA KINABALU: The digitization of services in the district administration will improve the quality and impact of government service delivery to the people, said Sabah State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong.

He said it also helps to quicken the management of matters and reduce the need for people to visit the government agency counters.

According to Safar, the district administration is the main administrative entity to implement policies for the wellbeing of the people.

He said the efficiency of service delivery in the district administration reflects the credibility of the state government in realizing planned initiatives.

“In line with that, the district administrator bears a huge responsibility to ensure that the inspiration of the state government coincides with the wants and needs of the people throughout the districts and areas in the state,” he said.

“Among the actions that can be implemented include the identifying services which can be upgraded to online services on an end-to-end basis, and identifying issues and improving work processes.

“The district administration also needs to improve human resource skills through training and knowledge transfer, study the effectiveness of rules and policies and provide proposals to upgrade information and communication technology (ICT) facilities in the office,” he said.

Safar said this when officiating the District Administration Governance and Integrity Course Year 2021 organized by the State Public Service Department (JPAN) here yesterday.

Safar said through digitization, some work processes in the office can be automated.

He said the approach will enable focus on more important work that requires the attention of civil servants in the district.

Safar also called on all district officers to plan and prepare a three or five-year strategic plan for district development that revolved around the progress and modernization of district administration.

“All district officers need to ensure that each district introduces at least one highimpact digitization initiative to enhance the efficiency of the district administrative machinery in providing the best service to the people.

“JPAN is always ready to provide consulting services and assistance if they need professional views on the implementation of new ideas on digitization initiatives in their respective districts,” he said.
