KKCCCI-managed primary schools record over 93% attendance rate

KOTA KINABALU: The four primary schools under the management of Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI) recorded an average of 94 percent attendance rate yesterday as Year 3 to 6 pupils resumed in-person classes.

Year 1 and 2 pupils have returned to school on March 1 last week.

KKCCCI president Datuk Michael Lui said the attendance rate reflected parents’ desire to send their children back to school for face-to-face lessons.

SJK(C) Chung Hwa Kota Kinabalu recorded an attendance rate of 95.07 percent yesterday, followed by SJK(C) Che Hwa Kolombong (94.7 percent), SJK(C) Hwa Shiong Putatan (94.56 percent) and SJK(C) Chung Hwa Likas (93.3 percent).

Lui said the Board of Governors, teachers and staff of the schools were committed to enhancing the precautionary measures against Covid-19 and complying with the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“We will ensure a safe and healthy learning environment so that parents can be assured in sending their children to school.”

He said face-to-face classes were invariably more effective than virtual lessons because some students may not have access to the facilities or highspeed Internet for online learning.

“Our students’ academic progress is our priority.

“Many students could not keep up with the virtual lessons, some of them require traditional teaching and learning approach.

“We hope that the schools under KKCCCI will put teaching and learning back on track as soon as possible for the sake of both the teachers and students.”
