KOTA KINABALU: The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) and Manpower Department (JTM) inked a new Strategic Cooperation Note to continue with its customized programs interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary, noted the original agreement between Jakim’s Institut Pengajian Islam dan Dakwah Sabah (IPDAS) and JTM’s Institut Latihan Perindustrian Kota Kinabalu (ILPKK) had originally been inked on February 23, 2020

He said the implementation period for the customized programs were originally set for one year for 200 IPDAS students involving muallafs (new Muslims), Muslims in the islands and rural Sabah.

He said the program consists of mobile phone repair skills training, automotive skills course, basic welding technology course, and basic electric wiring course.

“This skills course training had to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the Movement Control Order announcement. The prolonged crisis called for Jakim-IPDAS to rework the Strategic Cooperation Note with JTM-ILPKK,” said Marzuk at the signing ceremony here on Friday night.

“I feel the difficulties and constraints of educational institutions under Jakim, especially IPDAS in maintaining the sustainability of the operation of institutions and the implementation of teaching and learning during the pandemic period.

“Especially, the last of infrastructure, network and device coverage as well as the limited and less comprehensive implementation of online PdP (teaching and learning platform).

“However, I am confident and hope IPDAS is ready and quick to drive the step towards adapting and utilizing digital technology and finding more creative, innovative solutions to ensure the sustainability of institutions and the quality of education is preserved,” he added.

Marzuk said IPDAS had successfully turned students into graduates from 1984 to 2020.

He said in 2021, 314 students are expected to graduate under IPDAS.

During the ceremony, Marzuk also presented a RM153,000 Sabah Jom Ke Sekolah

2021 Program contribution to Pertubuhan Penggerak Kebajikan dan Dakwah Sabah and witnessed the handover of RM50,000 mock-cheque to Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia.
