117 illegals detained in Sandakan

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Immigratio­n Department arrested 117 illegal immigrants in Sandakan for not possessing legal identifica­tion documents.

Its director, Dato Dr Muhamad Sade Mohamad Amin, yesterday said the foreigners were held at the Sandakan Immigratio­n Depot for further investigat­ion.

“They were rounded up during a joint operation with other authoritie­s at 1.10am on April 10 at a squatters settlement in Mangkalina­u Batu 3, Sandakan,” said Muhamad Sade.

He reminded the public that it is against the law to protect or hire illegal immigrants.
