Four compounds issued in Tawau

-

TAWAU: Four compounds have been issued since April 3 till yesterday for the offense of operating business without approval, car driver carrying more passengers, boat carrying passengers more than half capacity and for not wearing a facemask.

District police chief ACP Peter Ak Umbuas said two of the compounds were RM10,000 each, one RM4,000 and one RM1,500.

The enforcement authorities especially the monitoring team will not hesitate to take action against anyone who violates the SOPs that have been outlined, he said yesterday when monitoring the road block at at Bandar Sri Indah, Mile 10 Apas Road.

He said there are thirteen localities declared under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) as the problem of Covid-19 transmission in Tawau is quite worrying.

Peter said it requires the cooperation of the public to comply with all SOPs issued so that the transmission or spread of Covid-19 can successfully be curbed.

Among the locality under EMCO, he said are Kampung Baru Pasir Putih, Taman Semarak, Kampung Ranggu, Simpang Tiga Merotai, Kampung Muhibah Raya, Taman Cahaya, Taman Sri Bukit Tawau, Jalan Tengku Osman, Jlan Mesra, Kampung Titingan and Taman Golden Hill which involved 17,804 residents in these thirteen localities.

“To operate the EMCO, cooperation with other enforcement agencies consisting of police, armed forces, RELA and APM with a strength of 384 personnel will handle the task for 24 hours,” he said.

On those who left the EMCO area before the barbed wire was installed, he said those identified will be detected through an integrated team and they will later be directed to be quarantined at the Ministry of Health quarantine centre in Balung.

The purpose of the roadblock, he said is so that people do not go out arbitrarily and though traffic congestion cannot be avoided but that is the method to deter people from going out if there is no need.

On the many ‘rat paths’ at some localities that cannot be closed down completely, he said there will be more frequent patrols and requests for cooperation from the residents not leave their area.
