MAG declares aspiration to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050

SEPANG: Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) seeks to achieve net-zero carbon dioxide emissions by 2050 as outlined under its newly launched sustainabi­lity blueprint.

Group chief executive officer Captain Izham Ismail said the blueprint was designed to be all-encompassi­ng covering environmen­tal, social, safety, governance and economic factors, in line with the United Nation’s Agenda for Sustainabl­e Developmen­t. At this stage, he said MAG is aiming to tackle four key goals: gender equality; decent work and economic growth; responsibl­e consumptio­n and production; and climate change.

“As a start, these are perfect targets for us to work towards, using our resources at hand efficientl­y to achieve the best outcome,” he said at the launch of the sustainabi­lity blueprint.

Also present were Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, MAG chairman Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin and United Nations Resident Coordinato­r in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, Stefan Priesner.

MAG is the parent company of national carrier Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, MASwings, Amal, MABkargo, AeroDarat Services and MAB Academy.
