Local councils can issue compounds for SOP violations

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry authorised mayors, local council presidents and local council enforcement authorities to compound those who do not comply with the standard operating procedure (SOP) at Ramadan bazaars.

Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this came into effect on Wednesday (April 14).

“The National Security Council has received complaints about non-compliance of SOP at several Ramadan bazaars.

“This is a serious matter when the Covid-19 infectivity rate is still high.

“Local authorities must ensure that measures are taken so the public follows the SOP,” he said on Wednesday.

He also said police arrested 42 individuals for various MCO violations on Tuesday (April 13).

These include activities at entertainment centres (seven), failure to register customers’ details (20) and not wearing face masks (eight).
