Umno never restricted young leaders from contesting

IPOH: Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) have never restricted any young leaders to contest in the 15th General Election (GE15), said Umno election director Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.

He said several leaders had been appointed and given the trust to become Menteri Besar or Minister at young age and rejuvenation is an ongoing process in the party.

“Former Melaka Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik, former Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad, former Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and former Perak Menteri Besar Tan Sri Ramli Ngah Talib, all aged between 20 and 40 when they were appointed.”

He said this to reporters after attending the presentation of the TAJ International College smart partnership certificate to seven government agencies here, on Wednesday.

Tajuddin was asked to comment on the non-governmental organisations’ demand for improvement in the country’s democratic practice including limiting the age of parliamentary candidates to below 65 years.
