Baby found abandoned outside private hospital

JOHOR BAHRU: A baby girl believed to be around 14 days old was found outside the entrance of a private hospital in Jalan Abdul Samad here on Wednesday night.

South Johor Bahru district police chief ACP Mohd Padzli Mohd Zain said the baby was found by an employee at the hospital lobby at around 8.45 pm after hearing her cries.

“The man informed the head nurse of his discovery and she conducted a check on the baby, who was fully clothed but without any identification documents,” he said in a statement here on Wednesday.

Mohd Padzli said the baby was sent to Sultanah Aminah Hospital and is now under observation in the children’s ward.

Based on the hospital’s CCTV footage, a woman cradling a baby was seen walking around the hospital but there was no clear footage showing how the baby was abandoned, he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for child abandonment.

He also urged anyone who has information relating to the case to contact the South Johor Bahru police at 07-2182323 or the investigating officer, Inspector Amy Dahlia Abdul Rahman at 014-6833881.
