75 longhouses still under lockdown

-

KUCHING: A total of 449 longhouses statewide were placed under lockdown since January this year, with only 75 still under the restriction as of yesterday, said Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

“The lockdowns have ended for 374 longhouses after no new positive Covid-19 cases were detected,” it said in a statement.

The committee thanked the community leaders and longhouse residents of the 374 longhouses for complying with the standard operating procedures (SOP).

It also reminded that social events such as funerals, weddings and other activities must first be reported to the nearest district office.

“The district offices have been instructed to seek help from security forces to ensure that the SOPs are always adhered to. Failure to comply with the SOPs may result in legal action,” it said.

On another note, SDMC pointed out that most of the new Covid19 cases reported over the past few days were concentrated in urban areas such as Sibu, Bintulu and Miri.

“Therefore, SDMC would like to advise the public to continue to be vigilant and adhere to the SOP,” it said.
