Cases over 2000 again nationwide, 10 more deaths

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of new Covid-19 cases in Malaysia has surpassed the 2,000 mark with 2,148 cases reported in the last 24 hours, with 10 more deaths.

The last time the country recorded over 2,000 cases was on March 5, with 2,154 cases.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a posting on his Twitter on Thursday informed that Sarawak recorded the highest number with 512 cases, followed by Selangor (459 cases) and Kelantan (221 cases).

Sabah recorded 202 cases, Johor (182), Kuala Lumpur (171), Penang (134), Terengganu (57), Melaka (53), Perak (51) while Negeri Sembilan and Pahang each recorded 34 cases.

He said 26 cases were recorded in Kedah, Putrajaya (8), Labuan (3) and Perlis (1).

In a statement issued later, Dr Noor Hisham said 1,259 recovered cases were reported on April 15 taking the total number of recoveries to 349,039.

There were 10 fatalities, comprising nine Malaysians and a foreigner, reported overnight, with the death toll now at 1,363.

The fatalities involved three cases each in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, two in Sarawak and one each in Johor and Sabah.

“There are 212 cases now in the intensive care unit, 82 of whom are intubated,” he said.

In his daily Covid-19 updates, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said those who died were aged between 54 and 97.

“The death cases were reported in Selangor (three), Kuala Lumpur (three), Sarawak (two), Johor (one) and Sabah (one).

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said 15 new clusters were identified Thursday, nine of which detected in the workplace and another six in the community.

The workplace clusters were Kampung Bunut Sarang Burung, Kampung Domis, Kampung Labok and Kok Lanas in Kelantan; Jaya Setia and Perabot Olak Lempit (Selangor); Lorong Megah Jaya and Jalan Labuk Tiga (Sabah); and Jalan Radin (Kuala Lumpur).

The clusters detected in the community involved Biah Skim and Melangkap Tomis in Sabah; Kampung Bechah Semak (Kelantan); Jalan Cempaka Putih (Johor); Taman Rakyat (Terengganu); and Kampung Pokok Machang (Kedah).
