GEORGE TOWN: Since its installation in selected public areas in Penang in 2015, the automated external defribillator (AED) has helped save four people who suffered heart attacks while exercising, said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

In this regard, he said the state government added two more AEDs, worth RM15,000, making a total of 68 units available for public use in the event of a heart attack in a public place.

“Today we saw the 67th and 68th smart support machines will be installed. One will be placed at Taman Bukit Dumbar and the other one will be handed over to the Civil Defence Emergency Response Team (CDERT) of the Kampung Sungai Pinang Community Management Council,” he said to reporters after the AED launch ceremony here on Saturday. – Bernama
