2,195 new cases, eight deaths
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia on Sunday reported 2,195 Covid-19 new cases and eight fatalities, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
The latest figures take the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 375,054 with the death toll now at 1,378. Malaysia recorded 2,195 new cases on Saturday.
Dr Noor Hisham, in a Twitter post, said Sarawak was back to being the state with the highest number of new cases, reporting 508 infections on Sunday, followed by Selangor (431), Johor (387) and Kelantan with 332 cases.
Kuala Lumpur, meanwhile, reported 176 new cases, followed by Sabah (112), Penang (84), Negeri Sembilan (42), Perak (35), Kedah (30), Terengganu (16), Melaka and Pahang 15 cases each, Labuan (6), Putrajaya (3) and Perlis (3).
Dr Noor Hisham said there were also 1,427 recoveries reported, while 219 patients are in the intensive care unit, 90 of whom require respiratory assistance.
Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham said the Health Ministry had detected another educationbased cluster in Sarawak.
This cluster was in addition to five other new clusters identified in the country today, with three of them linked to workplaces and one more in the community.
“The school or institute of higher education cluster was identified as the Jalan Bintulu-Sibu cluster, which involves the Tatau and Bintulu districts in Sarawak.
“This cluster involves students and staff from an education centre located along Jalan Bintulu-Sibu in Tatau. To date, 546 individuals have been screened, with 11 positive cases detected in this cluster,” he said.
The workplace clusters were the Selat Klang and Tapak Bina Cahaya Alam clusters in Selangor and Jalan Perindustrian Satu in Johor while the one in the community was identified as Tarat Tani in Sarawak.
On Saturday, the MOH identified three education-based clusters, namely Ulu Balingian and Jalan Disa (Sarawak) and Jalan Maktab (Selangor).
