Insurance scheme proposed for Sandakan journalists

-

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Persatuan Media Sandakan (PEMASSA) committee members had voted for personal accident insurance coverage for all active members of the association, said PEMASSA chairman and Elopura Chinese community leader Kapitan James Leong.

Leong said the committee had approved his proposal for the insurance scheme during a meeting held recently.

He said this is because media practitioners, who are always in the field to gather authentic news for the general public, face various safety risks while performing their daily duties.

Leong said the association will seek donations for funding programs that will be implemented for the welfare of members and their families.

“Prepare for rainy days. We don’t know what will happen to us tomorrow, so it’s good to have a plan to ease the burden if things go wrong,” he said.

According to Leong, this month, PEMASSA donated food baskets to all 33 members as all media practitioners have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said PEMASSA also provided hampers to four print and electronic media organizations and two food baskets to charity homes in Sandakan through its community program.
