PBDSB reiterates call for lockdown on red zones

-

MIRI: Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB) has reiterated its call for the state government to impose a lockdown on Covid-19 red zones as a drastic measure to curb the spread of the virus.

Its president Bobby William said the people are anxious and worried about the high number of cases recorded in the state over the last two weeks, especially in Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri.

“The trend is worrying, and the people want the state government to impose a lockdown, if not on all districts in Sarawak then at least on red zone districts.

“This is crucial because only through lockdown can the movement of the people between districts can be drastically reduced and with that, the chance of the virus spreading uncontrollably,” he told The Borneo Post here yesterday.

PBDSB made a similar call for lockdown to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee on April 12.

Bobby said the state government may have been pressured by many sectors especially businesses to not implement a lockdown, but stressed that the health and wellbeing of the people ought to be the priority.

“It is undeniable that many businesses are trying to stay afloat but at the same time, it is also important that the state government consider the health and wellbeing of the people, he said.

He suggested that a 14-day total lockdown be imposed on districts that have recorded high number of positive cases in the last few weeks, and also for all schools in Covid-19 red zones to be closed.

“Parents are very anxious and worried about sending their children to school during this time. We hope that the state government would take into consideration the parents’ concern about this issue,” he said.
