-

TAWAU: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) through OP Cegah Pati (OCP) Daratan detained eight illegal immigrants at an unnumbered house in Kampung Kurnia Jaya, Mile 4, Apas Road, on Monday.

ESSCom commander DCP Datuk Ahmad Fuad Othman in a statement said during the incident at about 7.55 pm, the security force acted on Contact of Interest (COI) information by security forces radar that had detected the movement of a suspicious boat from the waters of a neighbouring country towards Kg Kurnia Jaya.

He said a team of 15 security force members from the General Operation Forces and Armed Forces led by ESSCom was arranged to move to the scene of the incident to conduct monitoring and inspection.

“The results of the inspection and raid on the house found eight adult men and a woman with a boy in the living room of the house believed to have just arrived and entered illegally from a neighbouring country,” he said.

“Further examination found that eight of the ten suspects did not have any valid identity documents,” he added.

Ahmad Fuad said two local men were also arrested believed to be waiting for the illegal immigrants to be taken to an unknown location.

He said all the suspects comprising nine men and a woman, aged between 10 to 70 were taken to the Tawau District Police Headquarters for further action and the case would be investigated under Section 55 (E) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
