SMC urged to solve garbage pile problem in Taman Sibuga

-

SANDAKAN: Member of Parliament Vivian Wong Shir Yee has urged Sandakan Municipal Council (SMC) to immediately solve the garbage pile problem in Taman Sibuga which could threaten public health, especially during this Covid-19 pandemic.

Vivian in a statement yesterday said the problem has also created a negative view of the district.

She said this problem had continued for three weeks where only the waste inside the garbage bin was collected while the waste outside was left there resulting in a foul smell.

In her statement, Vivian also urged residents not to throw large trash at the public garbage disposal area at will.

She said the residents must show their awareness and understand that their action is wrong.

“I believe a solution must be sought to address this matter and it is understandable for most people to carry big waste to the only dump site in the district which is also difficult to be reached by small vehicles,” she said.

In the meantime, Vivian said the Sandakan people are unaware of the trash collection schedule during the absence of the contractor.

Previously, she said apart from RORO, there will be a lorry that comes to collect large waste for the facility of the people.

She hopes the contractor who will take over the trash collection duties on May 1 will be able to carry out their duty as best as possible for the benefit of the people in this district.

Vivian said she will also monitor the service given to the people here as systematic trash management is also a benchmark for Sandakan to be ready to become a city.

“If the infrastructure and basic facilities desperately needed by the people fail to be provided as best as possible, then how can we reach the status of a city?” she added.
